MONTHLY UPDATE: APRIL 2018
Hi Infrastructure Universe,
Over the last few weeks, Autodesk has released a few updates, AND IT IS THAT TIME OF YEAR FOR THE 2019 SOFTWARE TO COME ROLLING OFF THE ASSEMBLY LINE. This is not an April Fools' joke!

Only One. AutoCAD 2019 has been released. With the 2019 release, Autodesk combined specialized toolsets found in AutoCAD Architecture, AutoCAD Electrical, AutoCAD MEP, AutoCAD Mechanical, AutoCAD Map 3D, AutoCAD Plant 3D/P&ID, and AutoCAD Raster Design into One AutoCAD. Read more about the new “Toolsets, ” where to get them, what else is new, system requirements, and much more.
Autodesk has also released a bunch of other software besides AutoCAD! I think they just released products that do not have any new features, except 3ds Max. Read more about what’s new in:

Software Updates & Hotfixes
|

|
|
Autodesk has released a fix for an issue in Civil 3D 2017 where surfaces that have been brought in to a drawing file via data shortcut (DREF) cause the file size to unexpectedly increase. The issue is caused by the DREF sync process leaving older versions of the objects in the drawing. Previous to this hotfix, the workaround was to export the surface and then reimport it using LandXML.

This update includes several new features and enhancements including:
- New controls for managing xref layer properties
- Ability to easily create, retrieve, and place model views together with automatically sized and scaled layout viewports onto the current layout
- Support for 4K displays
- Improved 3D graphics performance

This update was released to address an issue where road elevations were incorrect when the database coordinate system was Imperial.

How to Import Civil Object Layer Settings

Moving Roadway Striping from Civil 3D to InfraWorks
|

From Civil Immersion: “In last week’s installment we learned how to import Civil 3D corridor models into InfraWorks. Once inserted, corridors are converted into a series of coverage areas, each having assigned materials such as grass, concrete, asphalt, etc. After seeing this workflow, you may wonder if it’s also possible to import Civil 3D geometry representing roadway striping. The short answer is “Yes!””

Visualizing Corridor Models by Assigning Render Materials to a Civil 3D Code Set Style

From Civil Immersion: “The geometry of a Civil 3D corridor model is defined using coded points, links and shapes. The display of these entities is controlled using a code set style that matches code names to the appropriate Civil 3D styles. In this week’s installment, we’ll take a closer look at the links that make up a corridor model. Links serve as the cross-sectional geometry of a proposed design and are typically used to define surfaces and hatch areas. By making a couple edits to the code set style, links can also be used to assign render materials!”
